Maternity Services

When it comes to your health and the health of your baby, UAB St. Vincent’s is here for the things you plan for – and the things you don’t.

Our team understands that no two pregnancies are alike, and each requires special care and attention to detail. Our maternity nurse navigators are here to support and guide you through every stage of the journey, from pregnancy to parenthood. We simplify your medical options and coordinate care to ensure that your experience is well-informed, personalized, and as stress-free as possible.

Women and Children’s Center

Deciding where to have your baby is an important part of your maternity journey. From routine to high-risk pregnancies and deliveries, our Women and Children’s Center provides a full range of care for moms and babies, including:

  • Emergency care: Our 24/7 obstetric emergency room is equipped to handle any conditions that may arise during or after pregnancy. From severe nausea to pregnancy, labor, and postpartum complications, our trained staff is here to care for you.
  • Birthing suites: UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham is the only hospital in the area with birth suites designed specifically to care for moms and babies throughout labor and delivery, recovery, and the postpartum period. Providing a consistent and restful environment for you and your new family is our goal.
  • NICU: In our newly renovated Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), your baby will be cared for by board-certified neonatologists, nurse practitioners, and a multispecialty team of experts in neonatal acute care.

Maternity Support Center

At UAB St. Vincent’s, this dedicated center can help with all of your maternity concerns. From planning for your pregnancy needs and delivery preferences to postpartum and lactation support, we have you covered. It is staffed by registered nurses and internationally board-certified lactation consultants.

  • Maternity nurse navigators: You will have the opportunity to schedule one-on-one appointments with our maternity nurse navigators. During these visits, our team takes the time to get to know you; discuss your preferences for labor, delivery, and postpartum care; and answer any questions you may have. You and your family can tour the birth suites ahead of time, to get comfortable with our unit before the big day. And while every birth is unique and cannot be scripted, understanding your expectations helps us provide the best possible care for you and your growing family.
  • Lactation services
  • Expectant parent classes
  • Boutique: Our boutique stocks a wide selection of items to support you and your baby every step of the way. You will find hospital gowns, labor and recovery essentials, breastfeeding supplies, and NICU-friendly baby clothing.
