We are pleased to announce the most recent UAB St. Vincent’s DAISY Award, recognizing the extraordinary care and compassion that nurses provide for patients and families every day.
Congratulations to Whitney Humphrey, RN, for receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Leaders. Angela is a nurse at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham.
Whitney has been nominated by a patient’s family; her nominator praises the care and compassion she brings to patients in the Emergency Department.
“Every ER is different, we all have unique experiences and while most are great, some of them leave you wondering – where is the compassion? Where is the patient care? Where do I go from here?
That was not my experience at UAB St. Vincents Birmingham when RN Whitney came to take amazing care of my grandmother. When I arrived in the room, I was immediately greeted and even comforted. A little backstory – my grand is independent and overall always smiling, talking and loves to eat; but a day or so ago, she wasn’t acting or sounding like herself. So, we came to the hospital and that’s when we met this amazing nurse!
My Grandmom was non-responsive; in some ways. It hurt my heart, but Whitney kept reassuring me and my grand the whole time. After labs and lots of smiles, along with a ton of prayer, my grand finally said “Hello,” and our nurse was right there, one-on-one encouraging, explaining every test, and even listening. It was the sweetest, most sincere moment, and it checked all the boxes. It answered all the questions that many people ask – that is why our nurse was so special to me and my gran!
