Frequently Asked Questions

Can I schedule my own appointment online at UAB Medicine?

Yes! Login to your UAB Medicine MyChart portal, select the “Appointments” tab, choose “Schedule an Appointment,” and follow the prompts to select a provider, visit type, and time slot. Please note that we are continuing to add specialties and services available for self-scheduling as we roll out Epic, our new health record system, so check back often for updates.

Do I need a UAB Medicine MyChart account to self-schedule an appointment?

In many cases, new and existing patients do not need a UAB Medicine MyChart account to self-schedule appointments online. However, scheduling through MyChart is highly recommended, as it provides a better overall experience. Not all services are available for self-scheduling, so if something doesn’t work, call your provider’s office directly or UAB Medicine Healthfinder at 205-934-9999 and we will work with you to get your appointment scheduled.

Can I cancel or reschedule my UAB Medicine appointment online?

Yes. You can cancel or reschedule most appointments using the link in your appointment reminder message, and many changes will be confirmed immediately. You will need an active UAB Medicine MyChart account to do this. If you don’t have one yet, it’s free and easy to set up at uabstvincents.org/mychart. If you need to cancel, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance when possible, as it helps us offer that time to another patient who may be waiting.

What is a "scheduling ticket" from UAB Medicine?

On occasion, UAB Medicine may send you a scheduling ticket via text or email. This is our invitation to you to schedule a specific follow-up appointment (like imaging) on your own, allowing you to choose the most convenient location and time based on the care your provider ordered for you. Prefer to call instead? We’re still here for you. Call your provider’s office number and press the option to schedule an appointment.

What is Fast Pass and how does it work?

Fast Pass is a feature within UAB Medicine MyChart that allows you to add your name to a waitlist for an earlier appointment slot if one becomes available. When an earlier slot opens, you will receive an automated alert by text or email. Just follow the prompts to move your existing appointment to the earlier date and time.
