UAB St. Vincent’s East Bariatric Surgery Pre Operative Nutrition and Surgery Prep Class

This class is designed to help you feel confident, informed, and fully prepared for bariatric surgery. We’ll walk through essential pre-operative and post-operative nutrition, lifestyle changes, goals and practical strategies to support a safe surgery and smoother recovery. You’ll learn what to eat, how to prepare your body, what to expect long term after surgery, and how to set realistic habits that support long-term success. This class is required for all patients undergoing bariatric surgery at UAB St. Vincent’s East. Your support person(s) are invited and encouraged to attend with you.

This class is offered hybrid. We offer in person attendance in the bariatric center along with real time virtual attendance via zoom. Please note that Eastern Surgical (Dr. Hughes and Dr. Dubois) do require their patients to attend IN PERSON only. BMI (Dr. Long) patients have the option of attending either virtually or in person. 

Class Cost is $50.00 and must be paid at the time of registration via credit card/debit card. The cost is not covered by insurance. Class fees are set and apply to all patients, and the program nor surgeon’s office is unable to waive these fees. The program does not accept cash or checks for payment.

Very important pre-class instructions will be attached to the confirmation email you receive on registration. If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of registering, please email arothe@uabmc.edu. 

Cancellations and Rescheduling and Late Entry:  A refund will be given if a cancellation request is received 1 business day (24 hours) prior to the start of the class. If the patient does not attend class with no prior notice a refund will not be given, but a coupon code will be given to attend a future class.  A full refund will be given for any class cancelled by the site. By registering for this class, you hereby express written agreement to this policy. If you need to reschedule, please call 205-930-6299 so a coupon code can be given to you so you can utilize your payment to reschedule. Please note that late entry into class is not allowed. If you log on more than 10 minutes late for class, you will be asked to reschedule so as to not provide distraction to other patients and instructors. By registering for this class, you hereby express written agreement to this policy. 

Information for virtual attendees:

• You must attend the entire class, and your camera must be on.  
• We ask that you not be driving, working, or doing any other activities during class that would prevent you from paying attention.  
• Please attend class in a quiet area with the ability to write and take notes.
