DAISY winner: Amber Pearson, RN

We are pleased to announce the most recent UAB St. Vincent’s DAISY Award, recognizing the extraordinary care and compassion that nurses provide for patients and families every day.

Congratulations to Amber Pearson, RN, for receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Leaders. Amber is a labor and delivery nurse at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. Amber was nominated by a patient.

“Our nurse Amber was truly a Godsend during the delivery and post-delivery of our son. She was with us from when my water broke until my baby was born – the entire time ensuring I was comfortable and knew what was happening.

About 45 minutes after delivery, I started hemorrhaging. The entire time Amber was simultaneously making sure protocol was followed and comforting me. My condition continued to escalate. The doctors were great, but it was Amber that constantly reassured me that I would be okay. She reminded me to breathe, and I could tell she was in control of everything, even in the fog of what was happening. I never lost faith in what would happen to me because of her.

I knew it was not only because of her job, but because she truly cares. She is not only an amazing nurse but an amazing person. I will never forget how she treated me: compassionate, caring, gentle, never losing focus of my health. She was on top of my care every step of the way. I pray every patient has a nurse like her! She made a traumatic experience less traumatic because of her constant reassurance, and the trust and confidence I had built in her throughout the labor and delivery process. She is an absolute rockstar! I will never forget her.”
