Ear, Nose & Throat Care

The ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctors at UAB St. Vincent’s provide personalized care for children and adults. Known as otolaryngologists, ENT doctors specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions related to these parts of the body and the senses they support, including hearing, smell, and taste.

ENTs treat conditions such as:

  • Ear infections
  • Dizziness/vertigo and balance problems
  • Lumps in the neck
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Sleep apnea
  • Sore throat and tonsillitis
  • Stuffy nose

Our specialists provide both medical and surgical treatments. Surgical treatments include correcting ENT abnormalities; procedures to check for cancer in lumps in the neck; and treatments for mouth, tongue, and throat cancer.

How we provide care

Ears: ENTs work with specialists known as audiologists to evaluate changes in hearing, and they conduct hearing tests for both newborns and adults. Our care teams also provide consultations and evaluations for hearing aids, cochlear implants, and implants of bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHA).

Nose: Our ENT surgeons remove nasal polyps that can block sinus and nasal passages, disrupting your ability to breathe and smell. They also treat chronic nasal congestion and nosebleeds.

Throat: Our ENT specialists use minimally invasive procedures and image-guided technology to diagnose and treat many throat conditions, including swallowing disorders, tonsillitis, and damage to the voice box. They also use endoscopic procedures to collect tissue samples for biopsy, remove growths, and treat head and neck cancer.

Asthma

Common symptoms of asthma include difficulty breathing, wheezing, tightness in the chest, and persistent cough. Our ENT specialists help patients manage conditions that can trigger asthma, including allergies. Your doctor works with you to create an asthma management plan and provides follow-up care as needed.

Head and neck cancer

Our ENT specialists help diagnose and treat various cancers of the head and neck. They conduct oral screenings of the mouth, tongue, and gums to detect oral cancer early, when it is most treatable.
