UAB Medicine’s urgent care clinics are a great choice for minor medical conditions and common illnesses, such as colds and seasonal allergies, sinus infections, cold sores/fever blisters, and lower back pain. But if you’d rather not visit in person, UAB eMedicine offers a convenient On-Demand Urgent Care Online service.
Minor medical situations can occur anytime, but they seem to happen more often during the spring and summer. You may come into contact with poison ivy while hiking or gardening, for example, or perhaps you’re on vacation and need a refill of a medication you forgot to bring. Also, sun exposure can cause some skin conditions to flare up.
Those and other conditions are well-suited to urgent care, but visiting a clinic isn’t always convenient or possible. In such cases, our On-Demand Urgent Care Online telehealth service can provide the care you need while avoiding a drive, time away from work, and a possibly long wait in a crowded clinic.
How UAB eMedicine works
On-Demand Urgent Care Online starts with filling out a short electronic questionnaire. A UAB Medicine provider will evaluate your symptoms, and if your condition qualifies, he or she will make a diagnosis, recommend treatment, and send any needed prescriptions to the pharmacy of your choice.
This service is available 24/7, and a provider will respond during the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday; 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays; and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays. No appointment is necessary, but a Wi-Fi or strong cellular Internet connection is recommended.
The service costs just $25. If the provider cannot safely diagnose your condition, you will not be charged, and you will receive a referral for the appropriate care.
