We are pleased to announce the most recent UAB St. Vincent’s DAISY Award, recognizing the extraordinary care and compassion that nurses provide for patients and families every day.
Congratulations to Kristina Victory, RN, for receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Leaders. Heather is a nurse at UAB St. Vincent’s Chilton in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Kristina was nominated by a patient.
“Kristina was the nurse assigned to spend the long, scary night with me. During my time with Kristina, she consistently went above and beyond to ensure I felt safe, respected, and cared for. Her calm presence, kindness, and willingness to listen made an incredibly difficult time much easier to face. She did not simply treat my medical needs, she treated me as a whole person.
One moment that stands out was when Kristina was giving me various things to keep my blood sugar within range, I asked for a particular soda. She called the ED and got me a soda. That moment demonstrated the level of empathy and commitment that defines exceptional nursing. She could have easily told me she did not have any. There are many more examples of Kristina’s caring commitment through the long night. She communicated with compassion and professionalism. She took the time to explain what was happening and answered questions without making me feel rushed. Her ability to balance clinical excellence with genuine human connection was truly remarkable.
Because of Kristina’s dedication, I felt heard, my family supported, and I’m sure her colleagues are inspired. Kristina represents the very best of what nursing should be.”
