We are pleased to announce the most recent UAB St. Vincent’s DAISY Award, recognizing the extraordinary care and compassion that nurses provide for patients and families every day.
Congratulations to Caitlyn Calderon, RN, for receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Leaders. Angela is a nurse at UAB St. Vincent’s East.
Caitlyn has been nominated by a peer; her nominator praises the care and compassion she brings to patients in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU):
We’ve had a patient on our unit for over 40 days. Caitlyn found out that the patient and their spouse will be celebrating their 5-year anniversary while they were still hospitalized. She talked with the patient and helped them come up with a plan to celebrate. She called the patient’s mother-in-law and found out specific details that are sentimental and relevant to the way they celebrate (including flowers, cake, etc.) and has gotten other nurses on board to help prepare for their anniversary celebration.
The DAISY Award recognizes the extraordinary care and compassion that nurses provide for patients and families every day. Submissions and stories are reviewed each month, and the winner is surprised at a special ceremony. You can nominate a nurse to be honored with The DAISY Award by using this form.
