The UAB St. Vincent’s Chilton Wound Center provides care for complex wounds or wounds that are slow to heal, including diabetic foot and leg ulcers. It is staffed by doctors who specialize in wound-healing treatments and supported by certified wound care nurses. They listen to understand your health concerns, then they work with you to create a personalized care plan.

Types of wounds treated

Our care teams provide treatment options for a wide range of wounds, including:

  • Arterial leg ulcers due to poor blood flow (arterial vascular disease)
  • Burn wounds
  • Cancer wounds
  • Diabetic foot and leg ulcers
  • Hard-to-heal wounds
  • Ischemia or gangrene
  • Osteomyelitis (bone infections)
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Radiation injury wounds
  • Soft tissue infection wounds
  • Surgical and trauma wounds
  • Venous leg ulcers due to venous insufficiency disease (venous reflux/venous hypertension)
  • Wounds caused by autoimmune disease such as pyoderma, scleroderma, and vasculitis
  • Wounds caused by edema (swelling)

We provide outpatient and follow-up wound care to help you heal, including:

  • Advanced wound dressings
  • Cellular tissue-based products
  • Compression therapies
  • Debridement (removal) of dead tissue or biofilms
  • Epidermal autografting
  • Negative pressure vacuum therapy
