Supportive care services

Complete cancer care involves much more than what oncologists do in a clinic. That’s why we connect you with supportive care services and cancer rehabilitation programs to improve your recovery after chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.

Many of these services are provided on our campus, which offers convenient valet parking. Transportation to and from appointments can be arranged, if needed.

These services include:

  • Cancer rehabilitation
  • Nutritionist support
  • Oncology pharmacists
  • Patient and caregiver support groups

You’ll also have an extended care team for emotional support, including a chaplain, palliative care specialist, and oncology-certified social worker. Our healing garden and chapel are always open for you and your loved ones.

Advanced testing

Our cancer care team does a thorough medical evaluation and uses a range of tests to diagnose your condition, including:

  • 3D mammograms
  • Breast MRI scans
  • Low-dose CT lung scans
  • Biopsy procedures
  • Advanced radiology imaging
  • Minimally invasive endoscopic procedures
  • Ultrasound-guided procedures of the chest and abdomen.

We also offer tumor testing for personal molecular targets and hereditary cancer genes, such as BRCA genes, Lynch syndrome, BRAF mutations, and germline and tumor cells.

All of these services are provided at the UAB St. Vincent’s East main hospital.

Treatment services

Medical oncology treatments are provided in a comfortable infusion center. Chemotherapy and other treatments may involve oral, intravenous (IV), or topical medication therapy. These treatments may be combined with surgery or other treatments.

Treatments include:

  • Chemotherapy, including chemoembolization
  • Immunotherapy
