Frequently Asked Questions about Billing

Find answers to your frequently asked questions about billing below.

What does the bill pay experience look like within MyChart versus the experience outside of MyChart? Are those very different?

One of the biggest differences is that MyChart brings your billing, scheduling, and health information together in one place. MyChart will also offer a live chat option with a real person available to answer billing questions. Paying outside of MyChart, as a guest or by phone, will still be available, but the experience will be more limited.

Do I need a MyChart account to view or pay my bill online?

No. You can pay your bill as a guest without creating a MyChart account. However, setting up a MyChart account gives you access to your full billing history, statements, and other health information all in one place.

Will my previous payment history be visible in MyChart?

Payment history from before July 25, 2026, will not automatically appear in MyChart. During the transition period, some billing activity may be visible in more than one place.

Can I view my Explanation of Benefits (EOB) in MyChart?

No. An Explanation of Benefits is a document sent to you by your insurance company, not by us. UAB Medicine does not receive a copy, so it will not appear in MyChart. Please contact your insurance company directly for your Explanation of Benefits.

Will I receive billing notifications through MyChart?

Yes. MyChart will send you notifications when a new bill is ready or when there are updates to your account. You can manage your notification preferences within your MyChart account settings.

How do I update my insurance information in MyChart?

You can update your insurance information through your MyChart account. If you need help making changes, contact your provider’s office.

What do I do if I can't log in or forgot my MyChart credentials?

MyChart has a built-in account recovery option on the login page that can help you reset your username or password. If you continue to have trouble, contact MyChart Support for assistance at 844-822-4748.

Will patients receive a new statement format immediately starting on July 25, 2026, or is there a transition period?

Yes, patients will begin receiving the new statement format starting on July 25, 2026. If you had services before that date, you may receive statements in both the old and new formats during the transition period.

Will the new bills from July 25, 2026, and onward have different contact information than what is on the current bills?

Yes. The new statements will have updated contact information, including a different payment address, and a new phone number and payment website. Please use the contact information printed on whichever statement you receive.

What payment methods will be accepted (online portal, phone, mail, in-person)? Are any of those changing?

We will continue to accept payments online, by phone, by mail, and in-person. Some of the specific phone numbers, mailing addresses, and web addresses may change with the new system. Please refer to the contact information on your statement to make sure you are using the most current options.

What happens if I’m in a payment plan now?

Your existing payment plan will continue as arranged. New payment plans for bills generated after the system transition will be set up under the updated process. If you have questions about your current plan, please contact Patient Billing Solutions.

Can I use MyChart to pay my old balances?

No, please pay balances based on the instructions on your old statements.
