UAB St. Vincent’s Chilton installs new system for scanning entire organs

UAB St. Vincent’s Chilton is pleased to announce the installation of a new CT imaging system, as part of our continuing effort to provide advanced technologies for the most complex cases. The latest in imaging technology provides the ability to scan entire organs such as the brain, heart, liver, and pancreas in a single, 0.23-second rotation, which reduces the amount of time that patients must hold their breath.

The state-of-the-art system allows for high-definition imaging across the entire body, helping doctors make more confident diagnoses. Highlights include:

  • Cardiac exams in a single heartbeat, with or without beta blockers
  • Whole-brain imaging in less than a second
  • Low-dose, whole-organ diagnosis and follow-up for oncology patients
  • Detailed bone imaging, even for patients with metal implants
  • Sedation-free and low-dose scans for children

“We are proud to bring this new, state-of-the-art CT technology to our patients,” said Shanon Hamilton, UAB St. Vincent’s Chilton administrator. “This investment in our hospital reflects UAB’s continued commitment to strengthening and modernizing the care we provide to our community, which ensures patients receive high-quality, compassionate care, right here, close to home.”
