UAB St. Vincent’s East Bariatric Surgery Program RECHARGE Class
RECHARGE is specialized education for bariatric surgery patients greater than 1 year post surgery who may be experiencing nutritional issues, plateau, weight recurrence or even just need follow-up, guidance and answers to questions on long term life after surgery. This course was created to address the need for continual education and follow up for long term patients after surgery as we move past the first-year.
The class is held virtually and is facilitated by Aimee Rothe BSN, RN, CEN, CBN, TCRN, NHDP-BC, AFAA-Board Certified Fitness Instructor and Bariatric Surgery Program Director at UAB St. Vincent’s East. Aimee is a post operative bariatric surgery patient herself and views the post operative lifestyle not just as a healthcare provider who specializes in bariatrics but also as a patient herself. Our specialized Bariatric Dietitian Claire Nesbitt RD, LD also facilitates the course.
Initial Class: The initial virtual classroom portion of the course is taught over a 4-hour time frame. It covers different topics associated with issues long term patients may be facing and involves open discussion and conversation with others who may be sharing the same issues as you. Some of the things covered in the course include: The “why” behind regain and plateau, what life looks like as a long-term patient, Macronutrients and Nutrition, Meeting Non-Hunger Needs, The Brain side of Nutrition, Vitamins, Exercise for long term success, Habit Changes, Portion Control, Meal Prep.
The class fee is $25.00 which covers all course materials and your 3 1:1 follow up appointments (virtual or in person) with the registered dietitian after completion of class. Class Cost must be paid at the time of registration via credit card/debit card. The cost is not covered by insurance. Class fees are set and apply to all patients, and the program nor surgeon’s office is unable to waive these fees. The program does not accept cash or checks for payment.
Your course materials and specific, very important pre-class instructions to include virtual class log in link will be attached to the confirmation email you receive on registration. If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of registering, please email arothe@uabmc.edu.
Refund Policy: refund will be given if a cancellation request is received 1 business days (24 hours) prior to the start of the class. If the patient does not attend class with no prior notice a refund will not be given, but a coupon code will be given to attend a future class. A full refund will be given for any class cancelled by the site. By registering for this class, you hereby express written agreement to this policy. If you need to reschedule please call 205-930-6299 so a coupon code can be given to you so you can utilize your payment to reschedule.
Late Policy: Please note that late entry into class is not allowed. If you arrive greater than 10 minutes late for class you will be asked to reschedule as to not provide distraction to other patients and instructors. By registering for this class, you hereby express written agreement to this policy.
