We are pleased to announce the most recent UAB St. Vincent’s DAISY Award, recognizing the extraordinary care and compassion that nurses provide for patients and families every day. Submissions and stories are reviewed each month, and the winner is surprised at a special ceremony.
Congratulations to Haddie Furlong, RN, who cares for patients at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham, for earning the DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses. Haddie was nominated by her patients and coworkers.
Haddie’s nominator praised Haddie for her positivity and caring personality in addition to providing exceptional, compassionate care.
“I was injured at home and found unconscious on the floor. After being [in the hospital] for a couple of days, Haddie came to be my nurse. From the depression I was feeling, my entire outlook changed all because of her wonderful caring personality. She was so cheerful. Not only was she great at her job, but also her bubbly personality was great medicine. She got me the things I needed, from my normal medications, to a toothbrush and comb. She changed my outlook.
She was never too busy to stop and speak or answer any questions. UAB St. Vincents is lucky to have her represent them. Patients are lucky to have a professional like her caring for them. When you find a gem like her, take care of her; she is special.”
Haddie’s coworkers echo her patient’s comments.
“Haddie has stepped in to being charge RN on the weekends, and resource RN through the week on some shifts. She has grown in skills such as leadership and critical thinking and has also had personal growth in compassion and confidence that is seen by many.”
