The occupational therapists at UAB St. Vincent’s provide personalized therapy to help patients recover from injury, illness, stroke, or surgery and regain the ability to perform important everyday activities and job skills. They get to know each individual patient and create personalized rehabilitation care plans.
While you’re recovering from a health event, an occupational therapist may be part of your care team. They provide cognitive (brain) function evaluations, assess your home environment for physical barriers to your recovery at home, and deliver therapies to help improve your quality of life. Care may be provided in the hospital, at outpatient rehabilitation clinics, as part of home health care, or at standalone inpatient rehabilitation facilities.
Our occupational therapists also specialize in:
- Cancer rehabilitation
- Joint replacement and rehabilitation
- Neurorehabilitation, to support your recovery from stroke and other brain and spine conditions
- Pediatric rehabilitation
- Therapy after amputation
Other types of rehabilitation services
Occupational therapy is just one type of rehabilitation. Along the way, your care may require other rehabilitation services, such as physical therapy, speech-language therapy, or physical medicine and rehabilitation. Your care team will help you schedule appointments, connect you with other helpful services, answer your questions, and keep your doctors informed about your progress throughout your recovery.
