The UAB Medicine St. Vincent’s East Freestanding Emergency Department in Trussville, Ala., provides 24/7 emergency care for severe illnesses and injuries, such as heart attack, stroke, concussion, and broken bones.

Our ER provides access to a wide range of specialists, including cardiology, surgery, neurology, stroke, and orthopaedic. Our services include:

• Admission to a nearby UAB St. Vincent’s hospital, when needed
• Board-certified emergency care doctors and ER nurses
• On-site digital imaging, including X-ray, CT scan and ultrasound
• On-site lab

When to seek emergency care

Call 911 or go directly to the nearest ER if you or a family member is experiencing:

• Abdominal pain (moderate to severe)
• Back pain (severe)
• Chest pain
• Coughing up or vomiting blood
• Major trauma
• Pregnancy labor pains
• Severe allergic reactions
• Severe burns 
• Shortness of breath
• Severe skin infections or complicated abscesses
• Sudden neurologic changes like weakness, difficulty speaking, numbness, difficulty walking, or loss of consciousness

Follow-up care

Your care doesn’t stop when you leave the ER. We provide follow-up care to support your recovery. Your care team also helps you manage your medications and sends prescriptions to your pharmacy of choice.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, go directly to the nearest ER or dial 911. Signs or symptoms of a possible acute emergency include shortness of breath, chest pain, open fracture, fainting, severe bleeding, head injury or other major trauma, weakness or numbness on one side, loss of consciousness or fainting, severe abdominal pain, and bites or stings.
